I've been terrible and not reading your blog or being in touch. HOWEVER I have decided to change that! Pittsburgh looks kind of gloomy (maybe it's the season?) but the strangeness of the architecture seems to make up for it (maybe this is intentional).Otherwise, no big news except that I require your current address so that I can send you something VERY important. Good luck with the Asian fooding - I trust that my kinsmen have put something there for you to enjoy...

Dude there has to be good Asian food there, there are so many Asian students... have you looked on chowhound? <a href="http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/713864?tag=main_body;topic-713864" rel="nofollow">This</a> got posted recently.

But ultimately what I've learned about being somewhere, you gotta learn to love what they eat there (<a href="http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/711142?tag=main_body;topic-711142" rel="nofollow">bar and pub food</a>) else you ain't gonna be happy at all.

Nathan: I've been wondering where those pre-college kids are anyway... I think they might have shown up by now? It's hard to tell though unless you see a group of like 10 of them...

Daniel: I do actually love indian food -- haven't had a lot here yet (one truck so far which was mediocre). There is actually a place on campus, in the UC that has indian food, but as most of my other experiences with food in the UC have been mediocre, I haven't actually gotten around to trying it yet. Perhaps I am spoiled coming from a midwestern town with a high asian population, but without my high-quality chinese, korean, and thai places within a stone's throw, I start to panic a bit. I still need to try the Pitt trucks and one other indian restaurant on Craig before I give up food altogether :)

And yea, I love fries as much (or almost as much) as the next gal, but going to Primanti's for dinner is not really a valid option more than say, once in a lifetime, with a group of like-minded pittsburgh n00bs. There's a crepe place in Oakland and in Shadyside -- I wonder if they used to have a truck or it's separate?

Darn, sorry the food hasn't been great. The majority of my great food memories *were* of food trucks actually. There were two amazing Indian places on campus, one was out of the back of this guy's van, and another actually had a spot deep down in one of the most remote parts of campus. This was 10 years ago, but I heard that in the meantime they got legitimate spots on campus, but I don't know their current situation. There was also another Indian truck near the U Pitt campus that baked their bread fresh inside the truck.

CMU taught me to love Indian food, but yeah, you're right, when I think back a lot of the other stuff was eh. I mean, yeah I do like fries forced into my sandwich, but that's kind of after drinking food. There was a good Thai place when I was there, but not really within walking distance...

Oh and it was nice to be able to get a crepe from a truck in between afternoon classes. Don't know if that's still around.
